At CREOG/APGO, Sharing Knowledge and Resources

Our team recently had the opportunity to attend the CREOG/APGO conference. We aimed to raise awareness and share valuable insights about Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) with obstetricians (OBs), residents, program directors, and professors of obstetrics. Kimber MacGibbon, RN and Dr. Aimee Brecht-Doscher, two key members of our team, led the effort to engage with conference attendees and spread awareness.

“Do you see Hyperemesis patients?”

One of the key strategies we employed was to ask OBs visiting our booth a simple question.

“Do you see Hyperemesis Gravidarum patients?”

This question served as a conversation starter and helped us identify OBs who are likely to encounter HG in their practice. Many OBs responded with a sign of acknowledgment and a “yes,” indicating that they do, indeed, see HG patients.

Building on this initial engagement, we offered these OBs our resources to help them better understand and manage HG in their practice. This included informational materials, treatment guidelines, and other resources aimed at improving the care and outcomes for HG patients.

Brand-New Resource at CREOG/APGO

One of the highlights of our booth was the distribution of our brand-new resource, pocket-sized algorithms for managing HG. These algorithms, which outline step-by-step approaches to treating HG, were incredibly well-received by the OBs. Many OBs expressed appreciation for the practicality and usefulness of these resources.

I said, “Did you hear about the exciting new discovery about the cause of HG? Hint: It’s not hCG!”
OB professor: “What?! Am I going to have to change my lecture slides?!”
She was very excited to hear about GDF15!

In addition, we also took the opportunity to invite them to our upcoming conference in November, ICHG 2024. This conference will provide a deeper dive into the latest research, treatment strategies, and best practices for managing HG.

Overall, our experience at the CREOG/APGO conference was incredibly rewarding. We had the opportunity to engage with the attendees, share our knowledge and resources, and ultimately contribute to improving the care and outcomes for HG patients.
