HG Awareness Month 2024: HG Hope

Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) Awareness Month, observed in May, is a time to raise awareness about this often misunderstood condition that affects pregnant individuals. HG is characterized by severe nausea, vomiting, dehydration, and weight loss during pregnancy, and it can have a profound impact on the physical and mental health of those affected.

HG is not just “morning sickness.” It is a debilitating and potentially life-threatening pregnancy disease marked by rapid weight loss, malnutrition, and dehydration due to unrelenting nausea and/or vomiting with potentially adverse consequences for the mom-to-be and the newborn(s).

From our exciting new research finding GDF15 is the cause of HG, new HG clinics offering specialty care, and our many clinical resources, we believe the future for those with HG will be different. So, our theme for HG Awareness Month is HOPE.

  • What do you hope will change?
  • What do you hope changes in HG treatment? How would you like to see providers change their treatment of HG?
  • What do you wish others understood about HG?
  • What do you feel needs to change in order for HG to be a priority?
  • What do you hope is different for the next generation of children?
