September is Sepsis Awareness Month. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), sepsis is a leading cause of maternal mortality. Hyperemesis Gravidarum significantly increases risk of sepsis because of reduced immune function, invasive procedures, and urinary tract infections. If you suspect sepsis, get immediate care. Every hour matters.

Sepsis is when the body’s response to an existing infection injures its own tissues and organs. Signs of sepsis include fever (higher or lower than normal), diarrhea or vomiting, abdominal pelvic pain/tenderness, confusion, and signs of infection.
