When a patient has later onset than the usual first few months of pregnancy, or their symptoms do not respond to treatment (you can assess with the HELP Score) despite using the HER Algorithm and HER Protocol, it’s especially important to look at other possible causes. Keep in mind the latest findings on the genetic cause(s) of HG as you explore these possible complicating factors or other causes.

Note: Gallbladder dysfunction is common in HG but removing the gallbladder does not cure HG.
