The Beginning

Ginger tea
Mint aroma clip ons
Unisom
More unisom
Oh yes the nausea
Oh yes I vomited too
You’ll get better
12 weeks,
14,
16…
But I knew
I remember
The first time
The worst time
Tearing through my throat
The last time
And the hundreds in between
My whole body
Horribly, uncontrollably, violently upheaving Again, again, again
There’s nothing left
But again, again, again
Slumping to the bathroom floor
Left in a puddle of my own pee
If my body had as much as that to give
My dog shudders in fear
I let the wave of water in the shower stream over me Hoping for a flash of relief
But the inescapable nausea suffocates
Heart withering, crumbling, disintegrating I weep
And now I am with you as you weep
I don’t know you
But I see you mama
Thank you, Haley, for sharing this poem.
