Observed on the first Wednesday in May, this day is dedicated to supporting each other through the worldwide journey of maternal mental health. Far too often, pregnant and postpartum mothers suffer in silence, with symptoms going undetected and untreated. Today, we raise our voices, share our stories, and shine a light on the often unseen emotional toll of pregnancy and the postpartum period. Whether you are currently struggling or healing from past experiences, your journey matters. Every mot
her’s voice strengthens this movement.
Mothers facing conditions like Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) are at significantly higher risk for maternal mental health complications:
- 26% report suicidal ideation
- 18% meet the criteria for PTSD
- Around 50% experience trauma
- 52% consider pregnancy termination
- 50% are diagnosed with a postpartum psychiatric condition
- Over 80% face psychosocial struggles
These statistics reflect real, lived experiences. If you have faced anxiety, depression, trauma, or grief related to pregnancy, childbirth, or HG, know that you are not alone. Speaking up helps others feel seen, supported, and less isolated.
Together, we can break the silence. Let’s continue advocating for better screening, compassionate care, and systems that address both physical and mental health. Every story shared helps build a future where maternal mental health is prioritized and no one has to suffer in silence.
