HG Progress 2025: Hope for the Next Generation
Child’s Mental Health Awareness Day is a powerful reminder that our choices, advocacy, and research now shape the health and wellbeing of future generations. At the HER Foundation, we envision a future where Hyperemesis Gravidarum no longer affects pregnancies or the lifelong health of mothers and children. That future starts with the progress we make today.
Did you know that research shows higher rates of mental health concerns in children born after a pregnancy affected by severe HG? Studies have found that babies exposed to HG in utero are more likely to experience emotional or behavioral challenges in adulthood (Wang et al., 2020). HG pregnancies are also at greater risk for preterm birth, which is independently linked to long-term mental health issues (Shaw et al., 2023).
This makes early and effective treatment of HG essential. Supporting mothers and families during and after pregnancy does not only improve their quality of life in the moment; it helps protect the mental health of their children for years to come.
We share this knowledge to empower you. Advocate for early, aggressive care. Ask the right questions. Support your child if challenges arise, knowing you are not alone. Understanding these risks gives families the tools they need to seek care and push for better outcomes.

Help us continue the progress. By raising awareness, advocating for better care, and supporting families living with HG, we are creating a healthier future for the next generation.
Together, we offer something powerful: hope. Hope that our children will grow up in a world where HG is better understood, better treated, and far less likely to shape their futures.
