Amy Schumer gives welcome address for ICHG 2024 conference virtually

Are you as excited as we are about the international Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) conference being in the United States for the first time? ICHG 2024 happens every other year, and this year, the HER Foundation is hosting to engage with patients and professionals. We want it to be a phenomenal success so better care is available for generations to come. You don’t have to be a doctor or scientist to make a difference. Amy Schumer will deliver a virtual welcome.

“I was violently ill throughout my entire pregnancy. Thrilled to be giving remote opening remarks for ICHG 2024 and hope every OB and pregnancy researcher attends to hear the latest on the cause of HG in person. We need this meeting to bring us closer to a cure!”

Amy Schumer joining us virtually at ICHG 2024

Emmy-winning and Golden Globe-nominated standup comedian, actress, writer, producer, and director Amy Schumer experienced hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), a severe form of nausea and vomiting, during her pregnancy in 2019 with her son. She’s raised the profile of this debilitating condition through her documentary, comedy specials, and interviews. We are delighted that she will be joining us virtually at ICHG 2024, giving a pre-recorded opening message.

ICHG 2024

Join us November 6-7, 2024, in Ventura, California, for ICHG 2024, two days of engaging with leading scientists and clinicians specializing in HG management. This event is an excellent opportunity for attendees to hear about the latest research developments and emerging treatment strategies for this complex condition. Organizations and patients will have opportunities to engage as well.

Expecting Amy Docuseries

In July 2020, Amy Schumer’s docuseries, Expecting Amy, premiered on HBO Max, directed by Alexander Hammer. The three-part docuseries takes viewers behind-the-scenes as Amy battles through an extraordinarily difficult pregnancy while documenting the formation of her latest comedy special. This series brings light to many of the serious complications women can face during HG pregnancies and the struggle to maintain a professional and personal life. HER Foundation’s Co-founder and Executive Director, Kimber MacGibbon, provides expertise on HG and the maternal and fetal mortality and morbidity risks in the documentary.

Amy Schumer joined HER Foundation’s Board of Directors

In May 2022, the HER Foundation announced that comedian, actress, writer, producer, and director Amy Schumer joined the HER Foundation’s Board of Directors. Schumer joined other sector leaders to guide HER Foundation operations and programs which include support services, patient and provider education, breakthrough research, awareness, and advocacy.

“Amy Schumer’s work has been important in raising awareness of the debilitating impact of Hyperemesis Gravidarum on the lives of mothers and their families. The Foundation appreciates Amy’s support as a voice for the HG community and a partner in HER’s mission to improve treatment and outcomes for HG sufferers globally.”
