This is truly exciting news, and we are incredibly proud of Dr. Marlena Fejzo! Dr. Fejzo’s decades of research in collaboration with the HER Foundation has given the HG community hope for a cure! The groundbreaking research brings us closer to understanding and ultimately preventing or at least greatly reducing the symptoms of HG in the future. Dr. Fejzo and her team are one of the only groups doing this research in the world! As we celebrate her monumental achievement, we encourage you to support our vital work. Create a healthier future for those affected by HG and for generations to come.

“Marlena Fejzo miscarried two decades ago due to hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), an extreme form of morning sickness that can cause violent illness. Dismissed by doctors who told Fejzo she was exaggerating her symptoms, the Harvard-educated Ph.D. set about conducting a series of genetic studies that have, in the past six years, produced breakthrough findings revealing the gene responsible for HG. With HG’s genetic mechanisms now known, Fejzo is turning her attention toward treating and preventing the condition for patients.”

The cause of Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) has been found, and it’s not hCG!

The research study published in Nature revealed that abnormally high levels of the hormone GDF15 and increased sensitivity to it are the major factors contributing to HG. Continue reading >>>
