September is Sepsis Awareness Month. According to the CDC, 13.9% of maternal deaths between 2016-2018 were caused by infection or sepsis. HG puts patients at higher risk due to reduced immune function, invasive procedures, and urinary tract infections.

Sepsis is when the body’s response to an existing infection injures its own tissues and organs. Signs of sepsis include a fever of 101 (38.3 C) or higher or a low temperature, abdominal pelvic pain/tenderness, confusion, shortness of breath and signs of infection.
