Donate to advance HG treatment!

Together, we can make progress! Every year, women suffer serious and life-threatening complications of pregnancy and many babies do not survive! Mothers and children who do survive are often left with long-term health issues that may change their future. Support the HER Foundation's collaborative campaign to focus on policies that move maternal healthcare for HG forward and prevent the deaths of women and their children: Women like Maria, who died of preventable complications of HG.

Maria, age 34, died of HG

Maria is holding her niece. She and her twins died when she was 14 weeks pregnant from heart failure and Wernicke's encephalopathy due to profound malnutrition. Maria was only 34 years old and starved to death in a university hospital in the United States. Had she been given vitamin B1 (thiamin) and proper sodium replacement, she would be enjoying her family today.

Fetal Complications

Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) increases fetal risk of prematurity, Intrauterine Growth Restriction or Small for Gestational Age (IUGR/SGA), neurodevelopmental issues, autism spectrum disorder, speech and language delay, Sensory Processing Disorder, learning disabilities, adult mental health issues, and adult cardiometabolic issues.

Maternal Complications

Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) increases maternal risk of malnutrition, Wernicke's encephalopathy (WE), sepsis, thiamin deficiency (TD), preeclampsia, hemorrhage, preterm birth, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD), embolism, peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM), and placental abruption.
