Date of Birth: 06/28/11
Original Due Date:06/27/11
Weeks Pregnant: 40 + 1
Baby's Weight: 6lb 7oz
Baby's Height: 19 inches

After my third hyperemesis pregnancy, this baby has officially ended my uterus and it's capability to carry babies!

We have had prodromal, annoying, stop/start labor for a few weeks. I don't doubt that every contraction, squeeze, and moment of pain wasn't doing something productive and allowed us to have our third natural birth.

Our official labor started yesterday at 11 in the morning. I took my three year old for a walk, and got pissed off more with each block due to cramping. We were due to see our midwives at 1:00 for our weekly check up. Dh wasn't going to come to the appointment originally but I figured I should call him at noon to let him know today was the "day". Things were mildly annoying but I knew enough that I probably wouldn't be able to/should be driving to the appointment (it was only a few blocks away, if that's an indication!).

We saw a different midwife who is just starting her practice as ours was in an appointment. I had been prepared to ask to be checked for dilation but to be told that we should just wait it out. The midwife not only offered to check me, but to do a stretch and sweep of my membranes. I was extremely happy that someone was going to help me advance the friggin prodromal crap and get us into active labor. We knew it was still early, but I was really certain we'd be calling someone at midnight and heading to the unit. Our birth was a planned waterbirth (had originally been a planned home birth, but due to new laws and legislation and not enough midwives we changed our plan last week to a hospital waterbirth).

After the sweep, things got really painful really fast. We took Kayah to a family member's house and started making arrangements to spend our day in labor. Once at home, things quickly progressed. Between one and six we hit the magic 4-1-1 and called the midwife. I was a 2-3 cm and 50 % effaced to start out, so we got a few extra hours by ourselves to labor down at home. I was intending to call our doula to come over, but between 6 and 9 the baby had turned Occiput Posterior and my labor got to such a heavily-painful and long/strong contraction point that I could only speak in one word sentences! It was that intense. I was trying to eat a little, moan a lot, and withstand what I could.

Our midwife came over again at 8pm at our request as I was no longer coping with the contractions. She checked me and I was 5 cm and starting to efface nicely, and my bag was bulging with each contraction. We decided to head to the hospital within an hour to get the tub set up and try a sims position in the hospital bed to turn the baby a little.

Baby and uterus had other plans!! We got into the car, drove six blocks, my water broke and I was trying not to push. Screamed our way into the ER and up to the unit, and within 5 minutes of arriving at the hospital Jonas was born! Nursing like a champ and we're finally parents of three kids. We stayed the night and have been home for the day. It's nice to recover at home!

HG is done, gone, but will never be out of our lives. Now begins a final step towards recovery and dealing with the fall out of three HG pregnancies. I plan to work towards dental care eventually and will face removal of my teeth (I am pretty sure, anyway) or if not removal then a crap load of work. I plan to work on my body this time and get my nutrition back. If it's a year to recover from a regular HG pregnancy, then I think we might be able to get close to recovery soon! Can't wait!

I have so much to owe to the ladies here. We survived this pregnancy with such ease and grace and I feel blessed to have been able to have the support system here had we needed it. Bless you all, and your babies and families.
